3. Garnet General advantages
Extremely hard (8 MOH Hardness) blast abrasive
Very low dust generation
Recyclable up to 5 times
Used for Dry Blasting, Slurry Blasting, and predominately the predominate media for Waterjet
Available in grit sizes of including 80 & 30x60 to #120 (2-4 mil profile)
Lower consumption rates as compared to conventional abrasives
By recycling and lowering lbs/sq.ft. consumed, greatly reduces abrasive cost and waste
< .5% Free Silica
Available in 50 lb bags and 2000 lb Super Sacks
Very high density - 145 lbs/cu. ft.
4. Garnet Characteristics
Color | Type | Mohs Hardness | Production Process | Applications | Available Sizes |
Dark brown color garnet sand | Rock sand. | 8.0 | Crushing and washing process. | Sandblasting, rust removal, Water filtration, etc. | 8-14#,10-20#,16-20#,20-40#,30-60#,80# |
Brown color garnet sand (Red) | Rock sand | 7.5-8.0 | Crushing and washing process. We wash rock sand up to 6 times. So it’s of high purity. | Sandblasting, rust removal with low conductivity, water filtration, etc. | 8-14#,10-20#,16-20#,20-40#,30-60#,80#,120# |
Pink color garnet sand (light) | River sand | 7.5-8.0 | alluvial garnet sand was scouring and washing by river water. It is Cleaner and with less sharp edges than rock sand. | Sandblasting, water jet cutting with less blocking in nozzles. | 10-20#,20-40#,30-60#,80# |
Pink-red color garnet sand | Sea sand, | 8.0 | It is alluvial garnet sand. The sand source was formed by the ancient rock near the sea. So it’s very clean and with high purity. | Especially for water jet cutting without blocking in nozzles. | 60#,80# |
5. Garnet Applications
Garnet abrasive is most generally used as a high-performance blast media, for the cleaning of aluminum and fiberglass structures. Because it is an inert, non-toxic, naturally occurring mineral, garnet abrasive is also used in places where water contamination is a concern, such as dry docks, bridges, and harbors.
Garnet abrasive does not produce as much dust as other expendable abrasive media, making it a popular choice for use in confined spaces as containers and tanks.
Garnet Blasting Media is a used for a wide variety of blasting applications. Used in both dry and wet abrasive blasting, Garnet Grit offers high performance and recyclability. The hardness and bulk density make this media ideal for general purpose surface preparation.
